Practical Support for Abortion Seekers
MAC is a practical support abortion fund. If you are traveling to, from or within the Midwest to access safe abortion services, we can support your journey.
Besides funding and coordinating safe lodging and travel (including gas funds, commuter trains and Lyfts, bus/train/plane tickets, and working with our partners at Elevated Access) we also defray the costs of food, babysitting, and additional medication. We are a small but mighty team of staff and volunteers.
We do not provide financial assistance for abortion procedures—but our coordinators will work to connect you to the abortion procedure funds you may qualify for, that we partner with daily.
States We Serve
MAC serves individuals traveling to or from the Midwest for care. We have supported clients from over 30 states. That includes clients traveling to or from: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

If you are traveling for an abortion from another city or state (or even across a city), we can help ease your journey. MAC can book your bus, train, or plane ticket or reimburse your gas money. If you need assistance traveling from a bus or train station to your clinic, we have trained volunteer drivers or can order you a rideshare and make sure you get back when your procedure is done. If you’re not sure of your travel options our coordinators will search options and create a plan with you.

When MAC first started working with abortion seekers, our team of volunteer hosts helped eliminate the expense of staying in a hotel by assisting with lodging. As need and demand increased, MAC pivoted to utilizing hotels for most abortion abortion seekers. Don’t have an ID or not yet 21? MAC works with a support network for lodging needs in any state, to make sure abortion seekers have a safe place to stay.

If food funds would be helpful while getting care, MAC can assist. We also can provide childcare funding- we make sure support is extended to our clients through cash or rapid electronic reimbursements- not gift certificates or other payment forms that control how funds are spent.

Need to pay for additional medication, prescribed by your clinic? Could use some menstrual pads while you’re getting care? Or are you looking for burial (or cremation) funding- MAC knows additional costs can crop up, and we are here!

Illinois and Minnesota do not require a parent or guardian to be notified of or consent to a young persons’ abortion. And Washington DC (who has third trimester providers) is also a protected city. MAC works with amazing young people daily (regardless of parental support) receiving safe abortion care.

MAC recommends abortion seekers visit I Need An A to locate an abortion provider (or find a telemedicine source for abortion pills, to self manage at home!). I Need An A also has practical support and procedure funding organizations noted, to help with support needs. MAC also has a section on SMA information and resources.
